Project proposal

After agreeing with the supervisor on a research direction, you need to submit a project proposal to ITU. This is 1-2 pages with the research question, possible methodology, and a few references. Here is an example text for a proposal:

Here are some general tips from the CS department: https://wiki.itu.dk/computerscience/index.php/Research_Project_and_Thesis

You need to read some literature about topics you might be interested in. We compiled an (incomplete) list of literature that might be relevant here: https://www.overleaf.com/read/fmqrrcshqqtr#26400a Please check out at list the top 10 papers in Section 2, and any of the others depending on the topic you might be interested in. [2026: the list is not up to date especially with regard to more recent topics we work on, but the papers are good!)

The main things to fill in are as follows:

You do not need to follow this outline 100% during the project and some projects deviate quite a bit. You are not assessed on whether you follow the proposal, but whether you achieve the objectives of doing a research project. Therefore, it is an important exercise to write A proposal out beforehand, and it should give a starting point on what you will investigate.

When registering with ITU, please enter the title of your project as "Project of [Your name] - [Informative title here]". It can be quite general like "Project of Alice - ML with X-rays". This has no influence for what you actually do in your project, but it's quite difficult for us as supervisors to navigate LearnIT when everybody's project is called "Research Project", and SAP cannot not help us to change it.

When you complete your project, you can ask SAP to update the title in your official grade list to keep the actual title.
